We spent another night at the Rocheport trail head in anticipation of a warmish sunny day. I believe that we got to ride the best 12 mile stretch of the entire Katy trail. We rode the trail out and back heading east towards the McBaine trail head. We were flanked by the Missouri River on one side of the trail and towering bluffs on the other side. Lewis and Clark had traversed and camped along this section. Mike really enjoyed his new E Bike. We rode over 20 miles and never a discouraging word did I hear from him. I had a hard time hanging with him on my mountain bike.

We enjoyed coffee and cookies post ride and sat and soaked up the sunshine.

Getting to ride this section of the trail was very much worth waiting for. We got to spend several days enjoying and discovering a new area. After coffee and cookies we decided to move on to Sedalia MO for the night and ride another section of the trail tomorrow. That is the beauty of traveling in the van. 10 minutes to secure everything and we are on the road.
Once we arrived in Sedalia we decided to spend the night at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. The spot that google maps said was the trailhead had a sign that said the area was closed at dusk. I did not want to answer a knock on the van door from the police telling us to move (this has happened more than once and it isn’t much fun) so we headed to the fairgrounds where I knew I would sleep in peace. The fairgrounds are open year round and cost us $12. Once again, we experienced camping on the shoulder of the shoulder, no restroom or even a porta john. We have a cassette toilet in the van which we primarily use at night. It just works out better if there is some sort of restroom option where we are camping. It was a beautiful evening and there were no knocks on the door. All good!
