A. beautiful morning to lay in the bed of the van and watch the backwaters come to life. A flock of egrets were close by, some sort of critter breaking the plane of the waters surface looking for breakfast, and the sun casting pink on the woods to the west of the water. Mike had installed small crank out windows in the van last spring. I love them. Mike is intentional and will park the van just right and I can lay in bed and watch the sunrise, sometimes over a prairie or a lake or the backwaters, like this morning.
We pulled out early and headed for Eufala State Park, about 30 miles south. I wanted to be able workout and we both wanted a shower. Upon entering the park we found a turnoff that took us to an area that was well above the lake with a pavilion (perfect place to cook breakfast), kids jungle gym (perfect for doing pull ups), a brand new bath house and a view of the lake. Again, PERFECT.
view of the lake the slam ball and kettlebell kicked my butt
Our route took us through Muskogee, where we heard “even squares can have a ball.” As it was Sunday we figured that our chances of that happening were slim, so we traveled on.

We decided to head to Lake Bob Sandlin State Park. We had stopped here on our way home from Texas last spring and really enjoyed it. Texas State Parks get 5 stars. This park is on a flooding, so lots of water. It also has a nice mountain bike trail. We got a great site right on the water. Traveling on the shoulder season has a few negatives, but the positives far outweigh them. Getting a good site somewhat last minute as well as very few people make it a great time to travel.
so nice to be able to ride together
Finding the heat. We were able to run both max air fans at night as well as having both windows open. Tomorrow we will land at Amy’s with a trip total of 1700 miles where we will really find the heat…..90 degrees! Great trip.
