Our time here is coming to an end. It has been wonderful being together as a family and will end tomorrow as we celebrate our Risen Savior together. Below are a few of the “happenings” of the last 2 weeks.
Always lots of chicken fun. RIP to Brownie the first chicken to get so much of Sarah’s attention. Brownie has been replaced by Cosmo who is game for most anything.
Sarah has been busy breaking in the new chicks as well. Everyday they are taken out and played with, usually more than once. Amy and Mike got out the chicken tractor and put it next to the chicken run so the play space is quite large and close to the other chickens. Hopefully this will help when it is time to integrate the newbies with the old guard.
We are looking forward to how the Silkies turn out. I can just see Sarah walking around with Lady Gaga on her shoulder like a pirate with his parrot.
. Amy is a great hostess as well as tour guide. We always get a couple day trips in to somewhere interesting. We spent a day in Brenham, about a hour northwest of Amy’s place. It was a beautiful day for a drive as Texas is in her full spring wildflower glory. We did a bit of shopping, got lunch and then headed to the cream de la cream of southern ice cream plants, Blue Bell. Blue Bell has been making ice cream for over 100 years. It is hard to get your head around someone wanting to produce a product that requires so much “cold” in a part of the country that is so stinking hot! The plant is open to visitors (free) and has a museum as well as a viewing area of the production floor. Best part was the $1 scoop (generous) of Blue Bell ice cream.

Another 5 star outing was a trip to the Rosenberg Train Museum. Very interesting and well set up to keep a “little” like Sarah engaged. The model train set ups were more than impressive.
Our days were also filled with just some low key hanging around, which could include an impromptu boutonnière for Yoopa, or giving Twister a good brushing.
Sarah loves butterflies and is becoming quite the expert in Monarchs. Her flower fairy garden has many flowers in it that are butterfly “tractors”, as she puts it. The milk weed are coming in and Amy and Sarah found some itty bitty monarch eggs., which went into a jar for observation. It is really a remarkable thing to behold how fast the eggs develop into caterpillars and how fast the caterpillars get so big. We had to leave before the chrysalis stage, bummer.
Story time at the library got a monarch showing as well.
A few more pics of Texas time.
