The time has come, the time is now, Marvin K Mooney we must head home now. We did not want to over stay our welcome, so after 2 great weeks we headed northeast across Texas toward Texarkana where I had located a free camping area on Overlander. It was a gorgeous day and the Texas wildflowers were in all their glory. Free roaming is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. We arrived at the Alex Smith County Park which is on Smith Park Lake, a waterfowl rest area and we’re very please with what we got. There were quite a number of sites and best of all was a brand new bath house with flush toilets and showers! Each campsite had a fire ring complete with firewood and a trash barrel….bonus. We did not see many resting waterfowl, but did watch a pair of beavers that were fishing and swimming on a sunny afternoon. . There was only one other rig in the park for the night. Very quiet.
We got the bikes out and rode down the two roads within the park. These both led to boat launches. The type/color of the water (brown) and dense vegetation made us appreciate the clear water of Michigan. The signage also gave us pause. Pretty sure someone would know if I caught an alligator and who wants to wade into water full of saliva?
Seriously though, it was a great stop and ya sure can’t beat the price.
