West Texas

Day two dawned bright with a forecast of 70 degrees. Gosh darn, the weatherman was off by nearly 15 degrees…in the wrong direction.! This wasn’t van dad and moms first rodeo. Even though they were riding way down south, they still packed ALL their gear, including van moms heated jacket and pants. With a stop to put on warmer gear and warm up with coffee they continued on toward Marathon Texas., 340 miles.. When riding in west Texas one does not want to pass up on the chance to gas up. Stretches of 100-150 miles with no services is not uncommon. We never had to learn that the hard way as van mom is pretty gas gauge concious.

Van dad and mom are sort of weird. They really like the wide open spaces, even if there is nothing in those wide open spaces. I guess that is good if you are going to ride the way they do.

Everything is bigger in Texas.

Marathon is one of the “ closest” towns to Big Bend.. It sits at 4000 ft elevation and boasts incredibly dark skies. It is guite small but has everything that one could need. The temperature did finally reach into the 70’s and the day ended beautifully.
