Being on the road in all sorts of new places. The perfect scenario for van mom to ride her bike on new roads in new places. Finding a bike tour in Lebanon Illinois determined our charted course. Tour Da Stooges…..now that sounded fun. Van mom signed up to ride the Moe Metric Century, 62 miles. There was the nicest park just outside of Lebanon, Horner Recreation Park. This looked like such a great place to stay the night. The signage didn’t say “no overnight parking”, so we took our chances that we could spend the night in the park. Alas, at 8 pm the park patrol kicked us out….literally on to the street. It was obvious that he felt bad and suggested we park right outside the park gate in a wide spot in the road, so that is what we did.
such a nice park what a beautiful spot where we ended up
It all worked out and van mom had a great ride. Sunny and windy an some beautiful country roads. When the sign says, “open from dawn to dusk”….that is what it means.
That night was spent at McNair campground, another Army Corp of Engineer campground. This is situated on Carlyle Lake, the largest man made lake in Illinois. It was one of the best Army Corp of Engineer campgrounds we had stayed in so far.
